Dumpster Day

for a successful and productive 2026 event!
Dumpster Day 2026 took place this year on Saturday, June 27th at the Glenhaven Park parking lot. Over 500 customer vehicles arrived at this event to have waste, recyclables, and reusable items unloaded. By the end of the event, 16 drop box dumpsters had been filled, collecting 24.8 tons of waste. An additional 2 tons of electronics and scrap metal were collected for recycling. A total of 120 pounds of styrofoam was collected for recycling, and our event was able to successfully recycled most of this (near the end of this event, we had collected such a large quantity styrofoam that our maximum collection capacity for recycling was reached, and a few pieces were too dirty to recycle). 96 mattresses and box springs were collected and recycled by Bye Bye Mattress. Due to the generosity of our customers donating reusable items, our event was able to donate a total of 15 items to Community Warehouse, including a table and a set of chairs. Additionally, 385 pounds of quality clothing, shoes, and home goods were donated to Mainspring Portland to be shared back into our community with those who need them most.
About our event:
This year, we partnered with the Madison South Neighborhood Association to sponsor this community waste-collection and recycling event. We split our volunteer efforts and donations between the two neighborhood associations. This is typically the Roseway Neighborhood Association's biggest fundraiser of the year! Donations were encouraged but not required, making this event more accessible to our community. What profit each neighborhood association earned will be reinvested back into our communities to support future neighborhood activities, efforts, and events.
Dumpster Day 2026 welcomed guests from all neighborhoods (one did not need to reside within Roseway or Madison South neighborhoods in order to participate in the services provided). This event included a FREE Shop to reduce waste and recycle reusable items back into the community. Contents of this Free Shop were determined by the items donated on the day of the event. Although a small donation was suggested in return for these items, they were ultimately free to anyone who needed or wanted them. We were happy to redistribute reusable items back to our neighbors.
